Evaluation

We have now finished all of our filming and editing of the music video, CD cover and poster. When planning our music video we had certain things planned which hadn't worked out. For exmaple, our biggest problem was that Claudia was not avaiable as much as we needed. As a result of this we had to use another girl, Katie to do the majorty of the filming. this worked out in the end and we found the link that she was Kate Nash's grandmother from the 50s and that Kate Nash looked up to her and tells the story. This also made the video different from others, challenging the conventions of music videos by having another person singing the song, instead of the artist.
Another problem we faced was with the CSI scene where she is watching tv. In the lyrics it says that she is watching it on a saturday night. we didnt film on the saturday night so the lighting wouldn't have worked. to overcome this problem we closed the curtains and dimmed the lighting. this worked successfully and it looked as though it could have been night time.
When it came to making our CD covers and posters we used photoshop, as it is a professional programme and allowed use to be creative and make them how we wanted them to be. I already knew how to use the programme from using it in photography which helped when it came to editing. The other girls learn't to use the programme as we edited. Photoshop also allowed us to use different layers so that we could change our minds as to how we wanted it to be and try different things. I was happy with the overall outcome of the CD cover and poster and they both linked well together and to Kate Nash.
For the editing of the film, we used Adobe premier pro. We had learnt to use this for our coursework in our previous year but learn't knew skills in this coursework. In our music video this year, there were alot more shots to edit together. we found it difficult to make sur ethat the video ran fluidly throughout. Since the singing was also seperate, we had to make sure that it all matched. in order of the singing to match the song, during filming we played the song in the background and Katie sang along so it didnt look like she was miming. when editing, we had to be precise with matching the shot with the song so that she was singing the correct parts at the right time. Once it was edited we then put the parts from the 50s into monochrome to link to the 50s.
Overall i was happy with our final outcome of our video, poster and CD cover, however, if we could work on it more i would like to add more shots in of Claudia and make the video flow more well so there are no jumps between shots.

Cd covers and poster

To make our CD covers and poster we used adobe photoshop since this is thetype of programme professionals would have used and it gave us creative freedom in that we could layer and alter the images.

In our CD front cover we made the background look like a cartoon drawings and fairytae themed linking back to Kate Nash and her childlike CD covers.
The writng we tried to make look untidy and childlike. the photo we tried to make look like a cardboard cut -out. thins link to some posters of Kate Nash where there are a couple of cardboard cut-outs.
For our back cover, we also included Kate Nash's Grandmother- Katie. we included all the nessessary title's, songs and production companies. Including our logo and parental advisory label since some of the lyrics aren't suitable.
On our poster we kept the same background to link it all together, but used a different arrangement. once again we made her look like a cardboard cut-out and placed her on the poster. We included reviews for the viewers to see and our lago, her myspace and parental advisory. the title is also in the same font in order to link them together.

We faced some difficulties when it came to filming that Claudia wasn't avaiable for alot of it. We already had KAtie as a back up in case we had a problem. She knew all the words and was able to sing along. these are some stills from our filming of her. in the video the idea is that Katie is Kate Nash's grandomother in the 50s. the filiming in in monochrome to show the period and she is wearing a vintage 50s dress to fit in with the time. in order for her to match the music when singing. we played the song in the background and she sang along so that it all matched and would be easier when it came to editing.

Production logo

We decided to change our Production logo of 'CLICK Productions' as we wanted it to look more professional. Since its called 'CLICK Productions we went for an oval background which looks like a fingerprint, linking back to 'CLICK' and then used the mouse pointer in the centre. To make this logo we used Adobe Photo shop since you can layer and change things and it is often used by professionals.

Development of CD cover and Poster

Here we have started on our initial poster and CD cover. However, we plan to change the picture to her looking more happy and with her legs hanging down for the swing and tree. We wanted to give a scrapbook effect as if shes a cut out on an illustrated background. We have included reviews, the release date and our production logo to the poster. She is also going to be wearing a red and white dress which is half polka dot. This is because it looks like the 50s style and the red would stand out as we have used it for the production company name and it is also on the robin.

Since some of the lyrics in her song are quite rude we had to put a parental warning label on the front of our CD cover.

stills from filming

This mid shot still is from the "spy scene". this is the point where she is walking out of the house to follow her plan and bump into the boy. We have dress her all in black with black sunglasses and a hat as a part of her "disguise". We chose to film as it was getting dark to make it seem more suspicious.
This was an experimental shot we did to try some different angles and will most probably use this is our video to show her getting ready. It is a mid shot from a slightly low angle from the side. we liked that the camera looked hidden, giving a secretive, spy effect.

This close up still shot is when she is singing into the camera "his eyes are way too close together...". This is an close up to show her expression which is slightly sad and annoyed and that she is singing to the camera.

This still is from when she is sad after the boy braking her heart and is eaating loads of chocolate and ice cream whlist watching CSI as in the llyrics.

This is a high angle long shot from the scene where she is talking to her friends in her bedroom about the guy and they are telling her that hes not worth it. We have used quite dim lighting to give an intimate feel for the conversation. We made it a high angle to show that she thinks little of herself at the moment, she is made to feel not important by the boy.

This mid shot still is from the party scene where she is in the bathroom upset after seeing the boy kissing another girl. We have smudged her makeup to make her look upset and she is drinking which connotes that she is upset about seeing him kiss another girl. It is also set in the toilets and shes drinking as it is referred to in the lyrics.

filming

We have now done the majority of our filming. After uploading what we have done, there were certain parts which we havae decided to re-film once we have done the rest of the filming. during the filming process we also experimented with some different shots from what wasn't included in our storyboards. Once everything is uploaded onto Adobe premier pro we will decide if we want to include these for more variety in our final music video. During the begining of the filming we found that staying with our production schedule was best, however we did have to make some changes to it for the outdoor scenes because of the weather and re-scheduled them. For the CSI scenes it was daylight when we filmed, however in the lyrics its says that it was saturday night. We had to block the light coming through the window and turn the lights down, but if we turned them down too much, the quality of the filming wasn't as strong, but we manged to get the correct lighting for our scene.
